Neighbour releasing rats near my livestock

He’s obviously better at live trapping them than me , I get one or two then the others avoid the traps like the plague ( see what I did there!)

Just dump the trap, on a rope, in a waterbutt and go for a cuppa.. simples job done.

I also assume that wasn't serious as it's illegal. For those not aware of the law people do get prosecuted for drowning pests these days and if a neighbour is dumping live rats he sounds like someone who might cause trouble.

As for dumping rats, despite what google throws up I doubt any council these days would do anything. The OP could tell him he uses legal poison, which results in a slow death, in the hope they are dumped elsewhere.

Or find someone who wants a bit of rat shooting.

How many rats does he live catch and release on your property , how much harm is this actually doing to you?
Trap , shoot ( but if there's enough to shoot there's way too many already ) or poison. Antagonising the clown who's doing it will probably, in the long run, do more damage than an odd rat.

Used to do this on the farm stuff as many as would fit and drown them .

Life wasn't so nanny back when I was a kid if it wasn't of use it had to go .
Sadly the same went for our working dogs inc my black Drakeshead called Prince he got injured on wire . So the old feller shoot him same went for horses pigs chickens rabbits.

Yes, now that the red mist has disappeared I’m starting to come to that opinion.

I use to shake them out into a bag and then get it into a corner and use a stick.
Sticks. Good medicine. My late mother had a fear of spiders but no fear of rats. As a young girl she had had to kill the rats that escaped from the laying houses used by the chickens owned by her WWI war blinded father (my grandfather) in the late 1920s. St. Dunstan's trained him as a wood turner and poultry keeper after WWI and set him up with a smallholding in Huggate in the then East Riding of Yorkshire. He'd put their terrier into the laying houses one by one and she'd kill the ones that came out of each with a stout stick. So she had no fear or rats at all. Yet would call me or anyone else near to remove a spider.
