  1. For Sale: Lyman 2-Cavity Bullet Mold #311041 30 Caliber (309 Diameter) 173 Grain Flat Nose Gas

I don't know if I'm allowed to post this or not so apologies to the mods if I'm unwittingly breaking the rules, but there's another post in this forum (under my name) which is offering the Lyman M-Die for loading these, if anyone was to be interested in both this item and mine.
  2. For Sale: Powders, Bullets, Other Bits

I do, very occasionally, but I don't know when I'll next get down there. Let me get back to you - will PM later when I've looked at my diary.
  3. For Sale: Powders, Bullets, Other Bits

Crikey! A flurry of interest! With apologies to Acm, who was just pipped to the post by banus for the 150 interlocks, I've updated the above, pending the usual arrangements.
  4. For Sale: Powders, Bullets, Other Bits

Hello Chaps, I used to post on here a long while back but as I said in one of my last posts a few years ago, stalking turned out to be something of a comedy of errors for me and I packed it all in - lack of time, money, etc. I was rummaging around in the reloading cupboard earlier this morning...
  5. .308 Bullet Choice

Don't worry too much about twist rates and bullet weights - it seems to be a matter of luck in my experience. I've just sold my .308, but that wasn't before I'd developed a 220gr RN (the Hornady 3090 I think it was) load that would have flattened anything I'd pointed it at in this country...
  6. Classified Ads Policy

Ok - thanks - will do that. The way I'm writing it, it sort of makes more sense as one long list.
  7. Classified Ads Policy

Hello, I have some bits and pieces to sell, including a complete rifle, but also accessories, bullets, powder, etc. which would probably be of use to anyone who wanted the rifle. Is it acceptable to post once in the Firearms section for all the kit I'm selling, or should I create 3-4 separate...
  8. 308,220gr round nose

Just to emphasise the point I made in my previous post - do not put 47gr of RL17 under this bullet in a .308. A charge of just under 41gr gave 2100fps when I tried it; a charge of nearly 42gr is giving around 2200fps. I suspect that a charge of nearly 47gr will give you an case of "I'm holding...
  9. 308,220gr round nose

I'm the mate in question - here are some of the bad boys: I was never going for maximum velocity - 2250fps was the target I set myself - and I loaded them on top of Reloder 17 with an OAL of 2.900", which is long for .308 of course, but fine in my rifle. I started with the following...
  10. Stalking @ GAP 180

Well chaps, this is a somewhat delayed write-up of my outing two Fridays ago, which I was lucky enough to take with Paul, owner / executive director / BigChief™ of the GAP 180 stalking syndicate based in Hertfordshire. I arrived a little after 2pm having arranged with Paul to meet him at the...
  11. A 16 year old Oregon huntress get the plague!

I believe it's quite treatable with modern antibiotics. I think one of the major worries about antibiotic resistance is that it could develop in the kinds of bacteria which cause plague and another pandemic could occur, but given that the incidence of plague is now relatively low and modern...
  12. once fired cases not chambering

Yeah, fair point. I had to go back and check since I don't pay any attention to post counts, but it puts yours / others' comments in a better light. I stand by my comment that it would be better to be patient / constructive rather than critical without offering anything helpful with it. I've...
  13. once fired cases not chambering

Come on chaps - stop criticizing the guy and share some knowledge about the place. He's got cases he can't use and he's obviously not understood the importance of FL-sizng any new brass. I've told him how it could have happened; others have told him what he needs to do to fix the problem...
  14. once fired cases not chambering

I made the mistake once of turning the sizing die a quarter turn back up rather than a quarter turn further down. The result was that nothing chambered and I had to re-re-load about 100-odd rounds I'd done with the die before I tried shooting one and couldn't close the bolt on it. My point is...
  15. Compressed Load Behaviour

Chaps - many thanks for your thoughts and your comments - much appreciated. I'm about to take the Mrs out for dinner and I shouldn't really be posting on here at this point for that reason: I'll read through again when I get back and ask some questions if I've got anything I'm not clear on...
  16. 243 100gr and carcass damage.

Well - I did mean for that to be addressed to the OP, but the pencilling is an interesting issue, albeit, one which I'm far less able to explain or understand. :???:
  17. 243 100gr and carcass damage.

+1 Which round are you using? As far as I can tell from their website, they do an ordinary SP and a bonded SP. Couldn't see a tipped 100gr round but that could be my incompetence. I'd expect bonded to do less damage than a plain SP, and a plain SP to do less than a tipped bullet.
  18. Compressed Load Behaviour

So chaps - it's reloading week in neutron's household, so another day, another question for the gurus! I've got a 150gr deer round for my .308 as follows: Reloder 15 46.5gr 2.725" Murom Primer 24" barrel 2820 fps It's pretty good, has killed deer without incident (i.e. no runners - yet)...
  19. Caliber advise needed..

How's that .610 subsonic wildcat of yours coming along? Seem to remember that I was the one that kicked all that off for you.... :-)
  20. Let's build a coherent philosophical and ethical case for hunting.

I've appreciated reading (and re-reading) all 7 pages of this as it currently stands and agree with much of it. The word I'm not seeing a lot of is "responsibility". People have approached it with comparisons between stalking and slaughterhouses and the conditions / approaches there, but I...
