Help on ammo safe

That sounds like a bomb with a few projectiles thrown in!

Don't the powers that be recommend keeping powder in a wooden box?

You shouldn't keep powders or reloading components in anything that can contain a conflagration because yes it potentially turns it into a grenade. Reloading components if they must be in a box should be in a looselid plastic box, on a shelf out of the way of little hands. They should never be kept in a safe.

Pyrodex is treated as any other Shooters powder or reloading powder.

Black Powder is treated differently and yes you need to store it in one of the special plywood boxes which is the basis for the grant of an explosive certificate. These are designed to be flame retardant and they will just blow open.

I bought a second hand Van Vault that normally goes in the back of a van/truck, put that in my loft space my FEO from GMP smiled and said thats going nowhere

plenty of roof for a few boxes of ammo in there!!!
