    Best factory ammunition to reload

    Hi,

I am going to be starting to home load soon but in the mean time I need to buy some ammunition for a new calibre I have just bought (.223)

What make of ammunition have the better cases for reloading after?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

    Cheers

    Jimmy

PPU brass is good enough to reload.

When I first started reloading my .223 I got 300 once fired from someone I know well.
These were/are a mix of mainly Winchester and Federal with a few Norma, RP, NOSLER and PPU thrown in.
They have all been reloaded many many times and only the Winchester brass has suffered any filtering/binning after cleaning.
None of them have failed, but I do not use compressed or hot loads.

Federal all had to have the primer flash holes reamed out, as they had crimped primers.
Federal also have a wide spread of case/H2O weights, but this has made no difference to the performance of the loaded rounds.
Federal also have a very thick case neck, so I neck turned them all before use to give me an even tension.

PPU has a wider case weight spread, and I only use them for woodland deer or fox rounds, as they do open up beyond 150yards, no matter what I tried.

If you aim to buy new brass, you can't go wrong with Lapua.

I bought 200 Federal Fusion 7mm-08 a few years ago and have re-loaded them all 9 and some 10 times over. Neck sized only then every 3rd re-load full length re-size, it may have just helped with their longevity.

I found Remington a little less consistent. In fact I've just neck-sized and trimmed 100 brand new cases this week.

Lapua, just good and use them straight out of the box.
