    .308 for 400 meter target

As per the title, what would be a good starting bullet weight, design and manufacturer. I appreciate the rifle will dictate the best, but so I don,t go out and buy a load of unsuitable stuff, was just after a point in the right direction.
PS its going through a Sako 75 heavy barrel.
    Cheers Neil

A 175 sierra matchking gave great results in my buddys sako 75 heavy barrel in 308..

Or 168 Grain A-Max would also be a good choice. Driven by Vhit N140....

For 400m or in fact most ranges I'd stick with 155gr bullets like the Sierra Match King/Palma or Lapua over N140. Obviously don't use these loads on deer.

The .308 is an easy round to load for liking many bullets weights and types.

I have used the 168 Grain and 175 Grain MatchKings and had great accuracy with them. Both would work well for 400 meters. Havnt used the 155's to be honest but they have a great reputation. My barrel is a 1 in 12 though. What is the twist on your barrel? You could always buy a box of each and try them and I think that is what you will need to do. If I had to stick with one bullet though... it would be the 175. My rifle loves them and you they perform better at longer ranges.

I have only recently started loading for the .308 for targets
    I have two loads

    sub 600 yds - 168gr SMK over 44gr N140
    over 600yds - 155gr SMK

for ease of use a 155gr will suit any distance you aim for

Neil, 167gn Lapua Scenars or 150gn Sierra HPBT Match?

If you are at Catton Shoot this Sunday or Catton Gamefair Sunday 12th April, pm me and you can have a few of each to try? If you want?
