    9,3x74r reloading

I am about to start reloading for my 9,3 using 286 grs tele mantels.
Rws brass and cci 200 primers and vhit 140 starting at 50 grs.
Does any one have any experience of using vhit 140 in there 9,3x74r

Well it reckons that, with a OAL of 3.72", 58gr is the max charge with a loading density of 89% and should net you 2328fps which is 3441 ft-lbs.

What other powders do you already have/have access to? I only ask as with N140 you aren't using 11% of the capacity even at max.

Obviously, purely as a disclaimer, it is entirely your choice to use these numbers (and any future numbers I provide) and i am not responsible in any way for you using them. Safe reloading practices should be used at all times. These are just computer estimates.

Sorry to put that but you never know who's reading this stuff.

    Thanks for that Jim .
I know that it is not a full power load with vit 140 but is around the factory ammo fps for the regulation of the 2 barrels. 2400fps is about spot on for a double rifle.
Just out of interest what do imr 4198 and reloader 7 come out at ? as they are my other large calibre powders.

    IMR 4198- 47.5gr MAX (78.1 LD)= 2255 fps and 3230 ft-lbs
    Reloader 7- 45gr MAX (68.6 LD) = 2181 fps and 3022 ft-lbs

Ran some other numbers based on the presumption that you can get Viht powders.

    VV N550- 66gr MAX (95.3 LD)= 2446 fps and 3800 ft-lbs
    VV N560- 74gr MAX (106.8 LD Compressed Load)= 2489 fps and 3934 ft-lbs

N550 may be a good choice since the accuracy load is probably under max which would see you right around 2400 fps. May aswell get the most from your double and it still regulate

Thank you both for your help I knew about n550 as it is also listed in the lee reloading book .
It was just that i had 140 to hand along with the other two powders
I think I will just order a tub of n550 and make life a bit easer

I would. I'm loading for my big boomer and was desperately trying to get a load with what I already had. Alas I couldn't so buying some RL22 it is!

    Jim,

I'm currently working up loads for my 9.3x74r, and have run your numbers through my Quickload, and can't replicate your results, all of which are coming up in the RED for pressure. Which bullet are you using ?
