Fedaral 223

It may be of interest for those who are reloading.

I have used Federal Ammo for a while. Found it better than the budget stuff and think you all need to read this...................................................................................

federal 223 is coming into the country in military guise. EG it has a small primer and a crimp ring to hold it in place. If you try to reload without removing the "crimp ring" you will not get a small rifle primer in the primer pocket.

worse still is how they perform from the box.

A mate has a fully custom 223 ruger M77. Laminated thumbhole stock, trigger job and bedded. From 100m the group with the Federal from the shop is 3".

So.......

I shoot 4 rounds from my modified M77 and get 3.5" group.

Then.......

I give him 4 rounds of 25GN Benchmark pushing a 55grain speer SP and we get the group to .47" in both rifles. We back off to 200m and still get better groups than the Federal @ 100m.

Federal have reasons for selling military ammo to hunters. they are suppling the folk that matter.

Not for reloading or hunting or varmint shooting though.
