    Lymes Disease and Arthritis

I had Lymes disease about 4 years ago, and now have been clear of nay major symptoms for a couple of years. But over the last few weeks, with the cold and damp I've noticed a lot of stiffness in my fingers and over the last few days some of the joints have become quite knobbly and are painful to the touch. This looks very like arthritis and quite depressing as I am only mid 40's and just wndering if others who have had Lymes suffer similar and if anything can be done about it.

I had it last year...well, thats when it was diagnosed, it took 7 months and eventually 3 weeks daily i/v antibiotics to shift it, and I think its gone, but it has left me with a sore....arthritic?... shoulder.

Thats where it manifested itself first..sore shoulders. But I'm older, so I could just be clapped out.

I had it twenty years ago, no arthritis but now suffering from heart disease, which the specialist tells me could be as a result of the lymes.

I had it about 8 years ago. Good to know that I may have long term side effects to look forward to...

My hips give me grief from arthritis since lymes about 4 years ago. Sometimes it's fine, other days I can hardly walk, or drive the lorry, thankfully, the new lorry is auto

Remember driving auto trucks (8 wheelers) nearly thirty years ago, great aren't they, just rev and go

You can get Gouty Arthritis in your fingers but normally this kick-starts in a big toe joint, mostly the right. I have had this disease for over 20 years and it manifests in many ways, and have occasionally had it in my fingers - gout is excruciatingly painful so could be another form.

As one of many Auto Immune diseases (about 250) your best bet is to get treatment asap to reduce the damage that such AI diseases can cause and take preventative meds; getting to the right dose can take a long time though.

Good luck, and hope it is not too serious and you have caught it early.

And yes, you can get long term latent arthritis effects believed to be caused by Lyme Disease (it is mistakingly called Lymes), often the joint nearest the bullseye bite.

Seek immediate medical help. Anti-inflammatories, even steroid injections into the affected joints. You should not risk joint destruction and the earlier you get treatment the longer your joints will last.

Well saw the doc today and she was the one who originally diagnosed the Lymes straightway, so I trust her judgement. She's taken lots of bloods for a full screening including arthritis but her view is I am generally run down (candle burnt at both ends too much), got a fluey type virus, but my immune system responds with Lymes type symptoms rather than snotty cold.
