    I have a slot to aquire a "6.5x55" mod, can I buy a 308 mod with it

Sorry if this is a daft question but the logic of the firearms licensing confounds me sometimes. The slot to aquire on my cert says 6.5x55 sound moderator. Am I ok to purchase a mod proofed at 308 as one has come up and I'd prefer to buy a slightly larger bore as I may get a 308 in future.

If the answer is "no" then can I ask for a 308 mod on my cert without having a 308 rifle?
Lastly, if the answer to this is also "no" then can I just ask the police to change the wording to Aquire a centerfire mod??

the answer is you can aquire a c/f mod it doesnt matter at all if its large or small ,im in the same boat ive just picked a 6,5 up but the only mod i have is for 223 25 cal but ive also got three slots one for 308 rifle/and mod 30cal plus a 6.5 mod as well but ive since found out that my 223 mod will just fit i hope my 6.5,so the answer is yes do it,

I think the way to look at it is that your slot to acquire is for one moderator for use on your 6.5x55.

Of course it may fit other rifles, as moderators often do and indeed may fit a .308 once you acquire one. But in the process of gaining a slot for your .308 in the future, you would also seek a slot for a moderator for that rifle too and explain that the one you have can do both jobs.

Be REALLY careful putting 6.5 rounds through a 5.56 mod...!!

    308's go through a .223 mod.............eventually

Thanks guys, my worry was that because the description is specific on my License ie 6.5 that I would be breaking a "rule" if I bought a 308 stamped mod and leaving myself theoretically open to prosecution.

if your worried at all ring them and ask could you have it changed to upto 30cal as 6,5s a bit too specific

Recently needed to change my over barrel Wildcat on my 308. Bought a new Aimsport in 308 but the dealer just allocated it against a 6.5 moderator slot that I had spare on my ticket. I use the new mod on my 308 and plan to use it on my 6.5 when it is threaded. The Aimsport has a range of calibres stamped on the outer case with (in my case) a dot against 308.
I asked the FCO would this be a problem if checked whilst out shooting with a moderator (shown on my ticket as 6.5 cal) but on my 308. His comment was that I would be fine as I had permission for rifles and moderator. As long as series numbers tallied the actual combination, I.e. Which rifle the mod was fitted to did not matter.
The whole calibre thing for moderators is a complete nonsense.
