    .22 Hornet performance.

    Hi guys,

I saw a trend the other day, ( i think it was on here) asking the question, " what is the performance and accuracy like on a .22 Hornet"?

Well i though id share a video I made the other year with mine, shooting a small gong in strong winds at 250 yards.

Great little cartridge, great little performer.

    Enjoy folks.

Great performing calibre, around the 10 second mark what moves off the screen top left?

Thanks for that 247. I couldn't quite catch the load, was it 13.2 Lilgun.

    Cheers.

It was my dad coming onto the land via a track, its actually deceiving in that it's over 3 mile away the Landy is. However its erelevent as from the shooters postion I'm shooting into a solid mound/back stop.

Yes mate, that load is the 40 grain Vmax (best bullet for the Hornet) and 13.2 grains of Lil-gun. This achieves 3019ftps out of this rifle.

Have you ever used 50grain soft points In your hornet? I like the 45's but I grabed a a box of 50's in hornady soft points varminter. Sorry guys a bit off topic

Yes mate, I gave the 50 grain SPSX bullet a good test, it was very accurate but not as good as the 40 vmax. The 40 Vmax had a slighty less bullet BC the the 40 Vmax but came at a cost of slightly less velocities.
I achevied a velocity of 2988ftps with 13.4 grains of Lilgun with the 50 grain bullet.

But like I said the 40 Vmax performed the best, outstanding accuracy with good velocity and bullet BC.
Without doubt the best bullet to use for the .22 Hornet, once the mag had been Modified.

The 50 grain sp have higher bc @0.214 2400-2600fps and 40g vmax have 0.200bc 2800-2900 fps

Thanks for posting this. I was looking at this calibre when a few years ago I read in a magazine that it was not inherently accurate. I left it alone but do keep looking at it.
