  1. #1

    Question Game Licence?

    Just a quick one,

Stalking in Scotland, do we still need a Game Licence?? Got told by a chap that we dont any more? Miine is still valid till august I think, so its no great shakes for me.

    Thanks

    Sam

There is an earlier thread on this topic and I follow the approach recommended by 'widows son'.

I send BASC in Trochry a cheque as per the following link.

    Sam,

As BASC will tell you, if you are stalking deer in Scotland on enclosed land, you have never required a Game License.

I received the following e-Mail this morning (I applied the bold text).

    Dear John,
Thanks for the email and for pointing out the lack of information on
Game Licences in Scotland on that particular page. I have asked a
colleague to look at this and ensure that the full information is added.
As I am sure you are aware, it is hoped that the Game Licence in
Scotland will be removed when the Wildlife and Natural Environment Bill
comes into effect in March 2011. What this means is that for 2010 and
the first couple of months of 2011 those taking game will require a game
licence, as well as those stalking deer on unenclosed land in Scotland.
This does not affect those stalking on enclosed farmland or enclosed
woodland, but it does mean that all stalking on the open hill should
    have a Game Licence.
    Best wishes,

This is very true, but quite easy to fall foul of what is and is not enclosed land, far better to cover yourself and get a licence
it only costs 6 and is available at most post offices, or from B.A.S.C.

As to whether we should still have to have licence to kill game in Scotland thats a whole different matter.

Game licences are now probably only available with ease from a single post office in Scotland, the address of this office has been posted on here before, & I'm pretty sure said address will be posted here swiftly!

Indeed there was, only one number between it and the one I bought the previous year.

all three of my local post offices have them, although they did run out of gamekeeper licences, but only for a 2 day period.
