Hope you haven't got any loose fillings, that sounds like a bit of a thumper.

I'm afraid not mate but I do love the big bores. Is she just for target or will you be loading expanding bullets later on?

no just for the target shooting mate, ive got brand new Lyman mold sitting in the drawer for nearly 2 years, thinking about casting some 500 grains, all i can find in the lyman book and internet loads for ruger No 1, really dont want to use those loads to be honest.

That's a shame mate, do you stalk deer at all? That lever gun of yours would make a great woods rifle with 350gr FNSP's.
My 45-120 is approved for deer

Yeah I guess most 500 grainers can be too long to feed in a lever gun so most manuals won't list it. I'd ask on cast boolits mate. Helpful bunch.

Lee's "Modern Reloading" had loads for the Marlin with 500 grain bullets. Almost all the loads are for Accurate Arms powders (no.s 2015, 2230, and 5744) loaded to 2.55" oal and about 27K PSI. That said, you can switch to the "Trapdoor Springfield" data and get the same performance with IMR and Hodgdon powers. They list a 485 grain lead bullet but you can use starting loads and add .010" to the OAL. Lee's SOP is to get their data from Hodgdon so it is probably in their site as well*.~Muir

    PS: Just checked. It is.
