Make sure you do not bleed the buck.
Make sure you get it back to a place where you can suspend it neck down. Cut round and well behind the front legs, keeping the front legs as socks.
Pull back the skin/roll back the skin on the neck up to the atlas if you can and then severe the head off inside.

So you are left with the intact head of the buck with a sock of long neck skin incorporating the front legs.

Make sure you wash off any heavy blood clots on the hair, as this is difficult to remove once frozen onto the skin and also helps keep the skin clean. Just use cold water, drip dry and then dry with paper towel and freeze.

Wrap the skin in a couple of good bin bags and freeze. You then have time to find a good taxidermist nearby. I am in Kent which is a bit of a trek, however I recommend you contact Gary Tatterton. Gary is a good taxidermist and a pleasant man to deal with.

Johnathan standing I'd based kendal. He's done shoulder mounts for me in a red stag, fallow and a buck in winter coat. He is also doing a sika stag and a roe buck in summer coat. You can come have a look at mine etc

Dave Hollingworth did my Mid Asian Ibex recently. He does very good work, and I would highly recommend him.

Brian I saw your stag when I picked up my Ibex. What a stunning animal! What did he score if you don't mind me asking?
