    Findhorn Salmon July

Just found out I've won a weeks salmon fishing on the upper findhorn this July!

any tips would be gratefully received as to flies to try etc etc....

also, are the prospects likely to be any good this time of year?

    all the best,
    mike

Can be prone to flash flood so maybe keep that in mind.
I never make the same mistake twice.

I make it five or six times.

    Just to be sure.

Don't get over concerned with what is potentially a bewildering choice of flies, you'll need something black and silver and something basically orange. Stoats Tail, Cascade, Ally's Shrimp, Willie Gunn and Tosh in singles, doubles and 1" to 1½" tubes will certainly catch fish but check with the ghillies for more accurate river based advice.

+- a few feet, at it's height that must have been a colossal amount of water

Findhorn is a fantastic river to fish, I've always done well anytime I've ventured up all be it never on the upper stretches, the gorge area is about as scenic as a river can get. Usual flies should fair well with the likes of Stoats tail, willie gunn and silver ally's etc. Out of interest what beat will you be fishing?
