Job Description for Falconry position

Purpose and Function:
To maintain the bird of prey collection at Peckforton Castle in compliance with the stated zoo licencing regulations, general husbandry and bird of prey management duties. Also to provide hands on encounters and flying demonstrations for both residents and the general public on site and at away venues.
As a secondary aspect to the above, is general ground maintenance which is also the responsibility of the falconry team. This to include, see list below for further details.

Skills;
Experience in safe and correct handling of all bird of prey species.
Professional and courteous manner when working with clients
Apt falconry knowledge to train and fly the birds on site in the collection
Communicative skills both via phone and email to clients

Duties:
Falconry lawns to be maintained, baths, signs, perches all to be cleaned before birds are tethered out on the lawn.
Birds to be safely tethered and in good furniture while out on display.
Overnight quarters, mews and aviaries to be cleaned on a daily basis.
Raptor food preparation
Hands on encounters, flying demonstrations, delivery of wedding rings by owls all to be undertaken when booked into the diary.
A running commentary to be in place while all display work is being undertaken.
Birds to be flown daily and trained according to the needs of the job, set out by the head falconer
Birds to be kept in good feather, condition and have well maintained equipment while out on display to the public.
Rota completed weekly by Head Falconer and dependant on bookings in the diary.
Shift times may vary due to late bookings or away displays.

Maintenance duties to include moat areas and inner ward:
Strimming of all grassed edges
Cutting of all grass areas with correct mower
Brush concrete area outside Landrover and Coach House
Wipe down all external wooden furniture, daily
Clean and empty all ashtrays outside Coach House
Rake and fill potholes around driveway when necessary
In autumn to keep on top of leaf collection
In spring to stain and oil outside furniture
