    black rabbits

Over the last couple of months I'm seeing an abundance of black rabbits in local areas close to me.
Any body else seeing the same or share experience as to why this is being seen

We had this just next to the M10 motorway outside of Hemel Hempstead .

Put it down to a domesticated having been released and bred with the locals.

Have seen this both in Essex where I used to have permissions for rabbits and on one of my current deer stalking areas. I read somewhere that it's a recessive gene thingy that can lead to a melanistic rabbit?

There's a place in south Norfolk where the water's funny (Great Ellingham, ) and there's a good number of black rabbits there.

We have them here too. On one fenced site the security guys always say 'don't shoot the black one, he's the security mascot'.

We don't see many black rabbits round here, but ginger ones instead. I'll post a photo later.
