    ESTA USA Visa scam

    Dear all,

In the process of getting my USA trip sorted. At weekend sorted plane seats and VISA son did it on the I pad. V tedious. When it came to pay it was $190 which seemed a lot, but paid it on Halifax CC.

Later that evening spoke to a friend and mentioned it he said miles to much so googled it. Turns out they should have been $14 each. We thought we were on the official USA ESTA site, turns out there are scam sites which charge you an admin fee. No one son didn't twig this.

Anway reported it to Halifax who could see transaction but no details so need to try and resolve later this week.

So if you are travelling to USA and you need to do onloine ESTA the fee is $14.

Checked on line says up to 20% of people applying on line get snared like me.

    Beware

DBit late for me last time I flew to USA was 1983!!

I booked flights to NY a few years ago through Virgin, After booking a link was on the booking page about the ESTA. I was in process of booking and it was charging me $40 and remembered someone telling me it was only about $10 . I did find the genuine page and paid $12 I think. So be careful even with Big companies like Virgin.

Since when did a British passport holder need a visa to visit the states as a tourist?

Haven't been to the states for about 15 years, but my folks are back and forward every year and I have never heard this mentioned.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......

We travel to the US at least once a year, and have had to do the ESTA form fopr a few years now.....It is a Visa Waiver form, not a Visa...if you dont fill it in, the can refuse you entry to the US, and if yer really lucky, it will only delay your trip by a few days...Thats what hapened to my daughters in laws..., got refused entry till the forms were filled in.... its what they demand now, so, has to be done...

I use Department of Homeland Security - $14

Why is it necessary to register for an ESTA visa?

International travellers who are seeking to travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) are now subject to enhanced security requirements and will have to pay an administrative fee. All eligible travellers who plan to travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program must apply for travel authorisation. For this reason the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) introduced an electronic method - ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). We recommend to apply for ESTA 72 hours prior to departure.

Ever since 911 = an easy money maker, pseudo checking if you are on their FBI useless watchlist.
All terrorists of course will 100% comply.
    But tourists get scammed
How about charging all Americans coming to visit the UK a £14 tit for tat?

You need to share where you got yours from if free... I renewed mine 8 weeks ago, and it's $14
