Lovely shots as always. Where were you? Just got back from a week by Mar Lodge & had a great time taking family & friends deer-spotting & had a wonderful couple of roe stalks.

Ben Armine, in Sutherland. This is my 20th year of visiting the estate, and I never get tired of it.

I left the rifle back at home, as I'll be back up stalking stags in a couple of months time, so this trip it was just the camera and the fishing rod. The river was low, other than a small spate on the Friday. I had 5 on the fly though I only managed to land one, a shade under 6 pounds. We were out on the Thursday driving past the Naver fishings, and in the space of a couple of hundred yards we saw two anglers into fish. Hopefully bodes well for later in the year.

Nice photo's Dom, something special about reds this time of year, they are scruffy but quite magnificent at the same time. I once had a 10 pounder out of Loch Naver, memorable because it was in the middle of a raging storm, four of us in the boat, much excitement .

Although we've been to Kinlochewe in July the last few years, this is the first time we've been up to the East coast. Compared to September when we normally go, we were amazed at how much behind the bracken and heather were. So far as the deer, normally when we're stalking stags in September they are well out of velvet and looking rich chestnut in the sunlight, whereas they almost looked like they were coming out of their winter coats last week.

What really struck us, though, was how much greener everything in Scotland is compared to back home in Oxfordshire. Down here everywhere is starting to look brown and dead, which given the lack of rain is hardly surprising.

Had my eyes on one or two cottages that we drove past......one day, perhaps.

Everything is well behind this year, even our local flower show was cancelled because no flowers, fruit or veg would have been ready! Mind you the grass is doing well, green and growing and needing cutting every 3/4 days otherwise it gets away from me.

My house is for sale you know
