My wife called me outside the kitchen yesterday and stood pointing at something lying beneath the window.
"There's a green woodpecker here that I think is stunned" she said.
Just like the dead parrot sketch, it wasn't stunned (or indeed pining for the fjords) but was well and truly dead.
Picking it up my immediate thought was to get it stuffed, so I now have it stowed away in the freezer.
I've had several mounts done before - owls, fish, deer and suchlike - but would be interested in any recommendations for small bird taxidermy, ideally in Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Berks or Bucks. I have sent a message to Kate Latimer and am waiting on a reply, but any other suggestions would be very welcome.
