Has anyone claimed on the BASC insurance?
Do you know what you are covered for?

I must admit personally I don't even know what members are covered for. I went onto their site, first time for years and couldn't find anything about it.

I am a member but is it worth it?

Did you not get the policy document bumpf with your information pack? It is very comprehensive :thumb:

We need to have insurance, but insurance cover should not be our be main reason for joining an organisation, whatever organisation you join is up to to you,but choose one that is standing up for your sport, maybe you should ask yourself what you can do for them and your sport rather than what they can do for you.

As a pro I can't get insurance through being an organisation member, insurance costs me in access of £300 per year which makes insurance through one of the organisations for a recreational stalker look very attractive especially when you consider other benefits being a member can provide.

the insurance cover in memberships with organisations such as BASC is generally just personal liability insurance i.e. cover you if you are responsible for damage to other peoples property (or other people!). It is not designed to cover damage to rifles or other equipment.

Many people will already have Personal Liability (and possibly legal costs cover) with their house insurance policies

My household policy certainly covers me for shooting plus covers my guns & rifles away from home, not that individually any of them are worth very much. Anyway, like others I am a member of shooting organisations to lend my support & take advantage of the more specialised insurance. Currently with BASC, GWCT, SGA & BDS. The BDS insurance has an add-on that covers dispatching a deer at an RTA which I have, just in case.

As I was burgled a couple of months ago I thought it would be a good idea to check my insurance needs.
My findings are that my shooting, fishing, photographic gear is hardly covered, and my tools are certainly under insured

I am organising free deer shooting for people on SD and was thinking if the BASC insurance would help if anything went wrong!
There will be no payment at all so your type of insurance wouldn't be required, I imagine.
Like most insurances do we know what we are covered for until we try and claim?

I don't know what you are covered for but £300 for any type of business insurance seems very cheap.

I wouldnt like to trade a foot for a grand - more like 1000 grand. Still, it might have been a poor foot whatever the owner thought.

BASC MEMBER but need other cover as they don't cover for beating ? as it is for profit ????

Hiscox house policies cover guns & stuff (at least that's what i remember). Also cover collections of 'furs' which is handy. I've got a lot of those; i'm a very stylish stalker

I've always been happy with them

I was on a shoot where a spaniel was shot, the dog survived but lost a leg. BASC insurers paid out very quickly for both vets bills and the equivalent cost of a trained spaniel of the same age.

I've been with BASC since I started shooting as I believe in what they do for us as a shooting community. I've had to use their insurance cover just once and I was very happy with how it was handled plus how quickly it was dealt with.

Is it possible to elaborate on what the Product Liability covers please?

Product liability includes claims for loss due to good given or sold in connection with a BASC activity, could be anything from a dickey tummy due sarnies at a BBQ to broken tooth from shot in a bit of game for example

Yes, I shot a muntjac unfortunately, the deer was lost in undergrowth the owner of the ground used his lab to try and find the deer resulting in the lab having a deep wound above the dogs eye.

The vets bill was around £200 which I forward the cheque directly to the vet. I phoned up BASC informed them of the situation I forwarded them a copy of the bill that I had paid I was duly paid out by BASC insurance in full.

Hi all anyone have an undate on what they cover and NOT cover cheers? My guess is they wont cover my beer spillage but:lol:

Also what are the others like?
