    ‎Great Year for Fungi?

Certainly seems that way albeit I was a week too late in harvesting the finest crop of Ceps I've seen on my patch for many a year. So sad to see some real beauties that were simply too far gone to do anything with.

I did track down one that was spot on to go with my post stalk breakfast and cooked in bacon fat with 8 squirrel kidneys it was stunning. But then anything cooked outdoors has an extra something.

Good luck with your woodland forays and if in the slightest doubt, leave it.

Picked a load this morning and they were the size of dinner plates.

The ones too far gone were of a similar size.

Perhaps the experts can confirm if they are early this year? Having said that it will be October in less than a fortnight!

The garden has loads of tree roots running through it and fungi sprouts through like dandelions - I've checked with a couple of books and am ALMOST certain they're completely safe, but need someone who knows to confirm - the old boys locally have promised to have a look in the next couple of days. I won't be eating any antil I've checked. That's what children are for...
There are a hell of a lot around this year - more than I've seen for ages.

Not sure, but I was guided to some brambles on Saturday and some chanterelles on Sunday. Looking forward to them being served up later in the week. Regards JCS
