Thread: Which Bolt Grease for a stainless rifle bolt?

  1. #1

Question Which Bolt Grease for a stainless rifle bolt?

Which grease is best to use on a stainless action rifle bolt cocking cam & lugs?
I strip, clean & lube my Sako 85 bolt & action regularly & feel that the teflon loaded grease I've been using recently isn't doing as good a job as I'd like. So what do y'all suggest.
The last thing I want is for it to start galling!

I'm supposed to be greasing my locking lugs???
Only kidding. Where I'm told to by the manufacturer, I like a thin coat of Lucas Red automotive bearing grease. Hi temp drop point and good lubricity in cold. Impervious to wet. I'm sure you have something similar there. I'm told that "Shooter's Choice" red gun grease is/was this stuff.~Muir

As Muir said Ian, I've been using the red gun grease in a syringe (shooters choice I think) for years. Never been an issue.

Texaco Molytex EP2 - a good general purpose moly grease that is reasonably priced on ebay. Works well for me and keeps my stainless tikka cycling smoothly.

"Shooter's Choice" red gun grease is what I've been using, comes in a handy syringe for applying.

Any handy bearing grease, no need for owt special. Only use the tiniest smear.
