Wolf hunters deployed to French Alps

I should have paid more attention in Lanark. I just looked at the old mills not the overpriced sheep that used to supply the wool.

Probably not every beast taken by wolves was a lamb, but then they probably weren't all tups either...

Wolves were re-introduced into Yellowstone National Park in the US. There is a lot of data - see following links:

http://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/nature/wolfmgnt.htm (interesting statistics on how many wild animals feed the population of c.114 wolves)

http://www.popsci.com/article/science/have-wolves-really-saved-yellowstone Author not so sure that wolves are the real hero....

Interesting video:

Amazing how many lambs were taken by White Tailed Eagles on their introduction on the Isle of Mull....

sometimes people take the **** out of compensation.....

South of Yellowstone on the border to Colorado state in a western clothing store last December I was told that in their area hunting wolves is now allowed 24/7 365 days per year to pull the population back down as it went quickly out of hand with reintroduction for the ranchers. Could not the British conservationists do some checking first? It is pi**ing into the wind I know.

In the pyrenese they have a dog that lives with the flocks of sheep all year round as guardian dogs, called pyrenean mountain dogs. They work in small groups and see off bears and wolfs. we used to have one, great gentle family pets but would take on anything if you were threatened. They have signs in the alps for walkers not to approach the dogs if they come across them whilst the dogs are with sheep or you will have a a very bloody if not dead walker. picture of lucy the pyr with my wife to give an idea of size and Lucy was only 8.5 stone, the big boys could be 12 - 14 stone Regards sbm 20140705_184229.jpg

The dogs are great until it suddenly dawns on them that they're more closely related to the wolves than the sheep....
Understandably, their working lives are often short.
