    Semi auto 17 HMR

Not deer related, but may be of interest.

Did some googling the other night and found some US articles about a semi auto 17 HMR made by Savage. Seemed to work reliably and pretty accurate.

Anyone know if these will come to the UK at some point?

    cheers,

    Bob

They won't. Semi auto is only legal here with .22 rimfire. This does mean that you can get one in WMR not just LR but without a rewrite of the law we can't have a semi auto HMR.

    See Chap 3.2 (ii) below:

When that law was written the 17 HMR and the 17 Mach2 had not been invented hence they were not included

There were rumours flying about in 2013 that the law was going to be changed in 2014 to include 17HMR/Mach2

I heard them rumours as well however it's nearly 2016 and nothing even hinted at in the shooting rags.

I guess we'll see. I don't shoot semi auto or HMR so it doesn't affect me however I still want the option to have them. Same goes for LBP/LBR, Sec 1 shotgun etc

So far as I know there are no semi auto .17hmr or hm2's made, and no ammo recommended for use in one anyway.

CZ made the 611, briefly, in 17HMR. Thompson Center made their fine Classic in 17M2, and there are a number of conversion kits to allow you to safely shoot M2 from a 10/22. (E.A.Brown in the US)
The Savage A-17 is a delayed blow-back operated weapon and CCI has designed a new 17HMR cartridge especially for it, though any 17HMR will function well. There is one sitting at the Trading Post but i'm 17HMR'd out. I would like to try the A-17 Ammo in one of my bolt guns to see how it compares to the standard load...~Muir
