    Bolt scraping scope

    Hi All,
I have just put a new scope on me .222, and the bolt handle catches the scope when you pull it back, I don't really want to put higher rings on as the scope it already 1/2" off the barrel now, so could I file a mill of the bolt handle so it clears the scope without weakening the handle,

    Cheers for your help Matt

Go for it. As long as you're not considerably reducing the thickness of the material you'll be fine.

Should be able to, a mill if that's all it needs should not weaken it much, I did exactly that with a Sako.

Shim the rings with a small piece of photo film.

what scope give you 1/2" at the barrel and fouls the bolt?
CZ/BRNO and a 44mm with fast focus eye bell?

I ground down the CZ/BRNO bolt on mine to completely remove the corner
no issue with strength as it is not a weight bearing aspect unless you are firing .243 beating loads that lock it up!!

Cheers for the advice, might try and shim the scope rings first,

I ground off a Parker Hale bolt, made a real nice job after polishing.
