How to remove old wax layers from leather boots ?

Is there a possibility to remove the old layers of "waxes" from leather boots. This to restart with a good new treatment ?

Plan B would be to come beating with me for a day. They'd be back to bare leather by about 12.30 ....

For beating I would use my Aigle Parcours wellies.

I started using the Altberg Leder Gris on my old Chevalier Ultimate boots. The extreme leder gris seems excellent. Seems to get into the leather very well. I have the impression that there is an old ( harder) layer of leather wax on the boot.
I must say that the leather gris looks very nice. At least as easy to use as the old Nikwax.

Heat - work over small areas with a hot teaspoon (left in boiling water for a while) - it will move the wax around and make it easier to get off. Then steam to get into the deeper stuff, where more prolonged heat is required.
