There is a post running at the moment regarding first Aid and qualification which I didn't want to hijack but can anyone recommend a First Aid course suitable for stalking and also for a qualified RCO where it would be used for major or minor trauma out stalking and on range days ?

Contact CRT Medical from Wales and enquire about their EFAW+F Course. If you get 10 candidates together the cost is around £50 pp incl. VAT.
Our DMG organised this course for members only last week and it was excellent.

Thanks I will check them out. The CRT Medical course looks good and actually has weapon related injuries covered, I didn't even think of Lyme s Disease

I got fed -up going to the usual first -aid cert classes round here seemed like a waste of time and money to go over the same stuff , you can do a refresher yourself . went on a forestry specific first -aid course and found that far more applicable to what might be encountered working outdoors and would recommend similar to anyone who might be out and about or using saws or pointy cutting things. Basically forget first aid kits unless the plastic box is handy for sandwiches, Israeli wound dressing (field dressing) clotting powder sachets, duct tape foil blanket covers just about everything and the confidence to tourniquet when that is the only option rather than bleed out.

My first aid is due next year so it's been a little while so I might be wrong but, the government dropped HSE endorsed courses in favour of recommendations. I think you could go to any training provider and they could literally make up a course that suits your needs. As a chainsaw operator I need a +F category which includes things like major bleeds, compression, spinal injury and things like tick bites. bI know other guys that have done 'advanced trauma' courses. I don't know how much is actually practical as a first aider rather than a paramedic but I bet its interesting.

Guys we used are MDD-Europe, the course was based at Silverstone, Northants. Qualification is a BTech, First Person On Scene. Doesn't cover splinters, slips, trips or falls. Concentrates on gunshot trauma and penetrating injuries plus CPR. Instructors extremely knowledgeable having served as combat medics in Iraq and Afghan, plus as NHS ambulance technicians/paramedics. Good advice on specialist kits including use of clotting agents, Wound Stop dressings, tourniquets and a host of other gear - highly recommended.

Yes.. I am running one in February and you would be very welcome. Don't settle for the bear minimum with an instructor with little/no real life experience. I am organizing an L2 EFAW+F course with an experienced Medic and deer stalker as the instructor. It will be relevant stuff and a very interesting day. See the post and get in contact if you are interested.... Available: First aid course - l2 efaw+f

Dont the Forestry Commission insist on a forestry specific first -aid ticket as well as DSC1 &2 to be able to stalk on their (our) land?

Does anyone know if Offshore advanced first aid is acceptable? Would seem to cover all the major topics, bleeds, trauma, shock, etc. except tick bites.
My refresher is next week, that also lasts 3 years & is HSE approved.
