It was the thunk shot just forward of the back leg might have taken the kidneys out .Not a nice shot and shows what happens when a shooter get s to excited or takes a shot that is not in his own cababilitys.

I'm with Chock, just before the hind leg, well back of the vitals. I've seen quite a few continental dvd's and they are pretty much all the same, trophy hunters who couldn't care a less about the beast or the meat. Do a search on you tube for driven hunts, i think some of you will be surprised at the standard of shooting especially when you consider the equipment they use ie, custom rifles, top of the range scopes etc.

....and Bushwear is promoting it. I was surprised and disappointed. With its brand strength and penetration into the stalking community Bushwear could be a promoter of best practice and yet here it is seeking to make money from a video that, on the strength of the YT clip, does just the opposite.

Just my two-penn'orth.

Oh. And the £10 cheque to H4H goes in tonight's post.

I am not a fan of the "hunters" DVD range. However do not tarnish all of of friends accross the pond with the same brush. Kristoffer Clausen for one maintains the highest standards through out all of the videos I have seen.

I think everyone has to bear in mind that the animal was quartering away so maybe he did shoot a bit far back the round will still have hit vitals. Obviously it would have been better if the animal had been perfectly broadside but as we all know that doesn't always happen.

With regard to Bushwear they are making a commercial decision to make money by selling a seemingly popular video series. Don't be too hard on them, we might want them to advertise on or support this site in some way one day...........

It was a crap shot, period; a shot that most here on SD would die a thousand deaths of shame at having loosed, and many would lose sleep over.

And are we really suggesting that it's OK For Bushwear to promote this video if they are making money from it and might support SD?

What's more it's on YT for all to see. Our opponents will use it as evidence of how callous we stalkers are.

Stalking doesn't need the League Against Cruel Sports and its animal welfare monitors: it has Bushwear.

On this one, whilst agreeing with your sentiments and not denying the facts relating to the shot, I'd have to disagree. How many people outside of this site would have noticed that the deer was shot too far back? I'd guess none - they'd have seen the deer hit, give one kick, then fall over. I can't claim to have seen the rest of the video, but it's not as though the deer ran for 50m and then struggled whilst it expired. Remember, I'm not denying your observations on the quality of the shot, rather your suggestion that joe public would be up in arms. If they were, it would simply be that a deer had been shot, not that the shot was somehow less than ideal.

If you really want to get upset, I suggest you have a look at the quality of the shooting on some of the UK-based deer stalking DVD's you can get from eBay. They are truly stomach-turning.

As for your comparison between LACS and Bushwear, personally I think it's uncalled for.

Bit far maybe Kevin?

Bushwear are a cracking company to deal with. They have been more than helpful to me on many occasions, I remember one occasion where they sent me to a different company becuase they couldnt match their offer!

+1 on the crap shot, that was atrocious. Bet they dont show the demise of that poor beast on the DVD, whether it is a slow death (as that shot would suggest), or the 'hunter' doing the decent thing and finishing the job.

I grant that not many non-specialists would notice the point of impact. But we delude ourselves if we believe that those who campaign tirelessly to condemn us to a world without hunting, pet ownership and meat eating would not recognise the poor shot placement and understand the consequences for the deer. Of course they will. And they will use such wrongs against us.

The Bushwear video is an own-goal for stalking. The LACS could not have done a better job if it had had one of its own 'observer' teams on site.

To which I'll now add -

Lest I come over as a pompous holier-than-thou paragon of stalking virtue, let me make three things clear:

  • I have cocked shots up too
  • We all in the stalking world have a moral obligation to strive for and to promote best-practice - particularly in respect of the ethical treatment of our quarry
  • No commercial organisation active in this field is immune from that obligation...in my view.

...scraping noise as KF puts soapbox back into its cupboard.

Althought as bad as this video is it does not show the animal suffer. Yes we all know it will have. Best estimations its back past the rib cage and gone through its gut before exiting the other side through front shoulder. Complete wrong angle. I would bring you attention to the above statement..... there is a lot worse out there than this by u.k stalkers and i assure you and no-one cares. take five minutes have a look and you will be disgusted... I wont even mention the americans style of shooting. in short its a commerical video well edited and for joe bloggs that deer was dead.... Shame....
