    Blaser

    Now then folks..

Am I right in thinking that a 6.5x55 cal barrel will go on my R8 without needing a new bolt face?
Is it just the magazine insert that'll need changing?

Current calibers are 22-250 and 308..

    Regards..

    Yes correct. I have the r93 and .308 and 6.5 x 55 barrels.

Correct your bolt head will be fine

    but

I think you might need a new mag insert as 22-250 is just for that cal and .308 & .243 are for them
and 6.5x55 will need a different insert but I could be really wrong so don't take it as gospel

Mr Fox, I'm sure you are bang on with that. The 22-250 and 308 are different mag inserts, same bolt face.
I'm sure when I bought my 308 barrel it came with the insert supplied.
I've a slot free on my ticket for 243 spare barrel. I was going to sell my Sako 85 in 243 and get the Blaser barrel but,
now I'm going to keep the Sako and put in for a variation for a 6.5x55 barrel.
I've no experience with this caliber other than a shooting mate has a Tikka in it, though he uses it for target shooting.
Whats the Feelings of this cal for stalking? Does it do as much damage as the 243, which I have found to be pretty excessive on Roe..
    Just fancy a change..

    CJS,

Yes...you'll need as different mag insert...funnily enough the 6.5 x 55 insert also doubles up for a .25-06

Stalking wise it is one of the "classics". Can handle everything bullet wise from 100-150 grain but with 123, 129, 130, 139,140 grain bullets you will deal with everything deerwise in the UK.

I use a 140 grain and it performs perfectly on roe, fallow, sika and red.

Lots of advocates and fans of the old "Swede" on here!

    Cheers Dorsettaff..

Funny you should mention the 25-06, that would of been my first choice.
Blaser, in their wisdom , decided not to make one for the R8. R93 only. For some reason.
    Anyway, thanks for the reply…

Ive got a feeling you can't get one NEW for the r93 now either..? As I was after one, and it wasn't on their calibre list. Then I went in for the 6.5 x 55.
