Thread: 222 or 204

    222 or 204

What are the benefits going to be going with a 204 over a 222 what is the factory ammo availability of 204 ?
Are they anygood with factory ammo ?
Are they another flash in the pan calibre ?
I guess my main question is should I buy a brand new 204 0r buy a quality second hand 222 ?

.222 cheap gun setup , cheap ish factory ammo with more choice , relatively quiet , potentially a better chance of a better return when you sell it as its more appealing to more people

and more choice of S/H guns

204 personally I wouldn't bother unless it's something you really want

I'll go with what Markfox says...I shoot a 222, and love the calibre, I also reload for it, easy stuff, think the rounds work out at about 40-45 each...tho, Privi is cheap as chips...

one is fast and destructive but has poor barrel life
one is slower but has greater bullet choice and better barrel life

how much does speed bother you? i can see the point in .204 for better frangability but thats about it

Hmmm, if you don't already have a 22cf, then neither, get a 22/250.

I would say getting ammo would be you limitation.
i personally like the .222 but I use it on deer

Not shot any foxes where I thought.." Hmmm. Wish I had hit that 1000fps faster..."

Speed is nothing unless your a speed freak,

accuracy over distance and bullet placement is what matters. Speed just makes you look silly when you just miss things faster...joking apart accuracy is what really matters and the 222 holds it own with the best of them.

as you know I have a 20 calibre, and it's my primary foxing/ vermin rifle, I love it and that's it, barrel life does not come into it when your running normal loads,

a 222 barrel will last for years, and as yet I have not seen a shot out 204 or any other 20 calibre for that matter.

so as I have said before its up to you, you will find more people telling you what they think (me included) but if you can get to try the rifles that tickle your fancy then I suggest you try them out, then look into ammo availablity cost and the choice of ammo you have for the type of shooting your planning on doing,

i wish you well but it's a mine field out there, I have made many mistakes in the past with scopes, rifles and moderators, now I have settled down and I'm well happy,

    best regards and good luck,

    bob.

    I have the 222, the 22/250 and the 204.

The 22/250 would be the last to go and the 204 would be the first to go.
