Fantastic holiday accommodation in the Hebrides

As has been the trend for the last few years there is a lot of demand for holiday accommodation on the Isle of Lewis for this coming season and, now Christmas is over, lots of people seem to be booking their holidays.

If you are looking for a fantastic holiday location for either a family or sporting holiday then take a look at the Dollag's Cottage web site not only for a great place to stay but also for lots of ideas for things to do plus photos and videos of the area:

The cottage is already pretty busy for the main summer period but the trend is that visitors who come in the spring months tend to book "last minute" and so there is still availability early in the season and also a few free weeks in September and October.

As the cottage is on a working croft dogs or other pets are not allowed.

Mostly for my own amusement I've been doing some timelapse over the autumn and now have some videos of Northern Lights, sunrises and so on over the cottage or in the area around it. Recently I've added some music to the videos as well, recorded at a ceilidh in the village using the inbuilt microphone on an iPhone, so some folks might enjoy that:

Looks perfect, and I'm on the hunt for somewhere exactly like this on Lewis but with dogs allowed... Do you have anywhere else available?

You could try talking to Caroline as she discussed that she might consider allowing dogs as an experiment, no idea if she went ahead with it but worth a try:

Shall do. We have relatives on the island, but not enough space for our brood plus hangers' on, hence looking for rentals. They have contacts but I want to look at more options.

No problem, let me know if you need any more info. Caroline has sheep but her cottage is a bit out of the village and fenced and there are very few sheep kept within a short distance of it so this makes dogs sort of practical for her. Just be aware that, depending on dates, it looks like the island is going to be very popular again this year and a few people I've talked to are saying that they have already taken about as many bookings as they'd want for the season. So, unless you are coming very early or after the Mod fortnight in October it is worth considering booking soon if you are to get a choice of dates, location etc.

The main "season" of April - end October is now pretty full but for some reason May has been a slow month this year so if you are looking a nice week or two in May then be sure to check out the web site and get in touch. The first free week starts 23rd April and I think there is a free week or two in early October if those dates might take your fancy:

May can be a good month for trout fishing and there is always the chance of a spring salmon in some places plus, depending on the year, the sea trout are often starting to kick off. May is statistically the sunniest month of the year on Lewis with an average of 202 hours of sun, that's 6.5 hours per day so ideal if you want to get outdoors, though not always ideal for fishing.

In October the trout close on the 6th but most places are open for salmon and sea trout until the 15th of the month plus there is always stalking for red stags as well. Last year I had 3 sea trout and a salmon on 14th October, which was my last day out for the season, and on the previous year the River Creed (which can be fished on a day ticket) took a good run of fresh salmon on 14th October.
