    Movie: The Revenant

Just went to see The Revenant. For those of you interested in hunting The West, this is a pretty realistic film, with great photography that conveys the harshness of the land. Very little language, a story told by acting like in a silent film, with the suspense of the best horror movies.

The reviews here have been good, with lots of praise for Leonardo DiCaprio. Both this and Hateful Eight seem to be the "must see" movies of 2016

Watched The Revenant and The Hateful Eight before Xmas and both outstanding watches.
The bear attack scene is unbelievable and surely LDC finally gets his Oscar for this one.

Was a version of this story not made into a film 40 years ago with Richard Harris?
    Brian.

Thanks for the review. Have seen a few clips and have decided to go. Was almost put off by Tom Hardy being in it. Over rated.

"Man In The Wilderness" - both tell the story of Hugh Glass

Can't say that I agree - I thought it was rather overbilled and overlong.

I grew up on, and love, stories of the Mountain Men. I have read most of the stories, some are more accurate than others. Hugh Glass was the real deal, and Leonardo seemed to do a pretty good job of capturing the essence. However, that movie could have been an hour shorter and lost nothing of content. All of the "visions' and "flashbacks" really did nothing to enhance the story and were purely a Hollywood addition.

Out of interest - and if you happen to know - which would you rate as the best narrative of the Hugh Glass story?
