    Thumbs up Cronograph reading

My chronograph is not giving the correct velocity reading?.
I would like to meet up with two other shooters with chronographs,
To get a reliable reading is anyone interested ?
    Uncas.

Its a procrono made in the U.S. I think,
I am guessing its about 150-200 fps out.

I got into a real muddle with my Pro-Chrono last year, when working up .260 loads. The readings were all over the place.

Finally the penny dropped that I was trying to use it in too bright sunshine, even with the sunshades fitted. I should have re-read the instructions. Just a thought.

Just curious, but how do you know it's not reading correctly?

You are not believing the figures in the reloading manuals are you?
It's the calibre of the shooter that counts not the calibre of the rifle.

Yes they are usually rather 'hopeful', particularly from the powder manufacturers.

I have found the Speer manuals to be far more realistic.

Perhaps that is because Speer use real factory standard firearms as well as test barrels ?.

Its a new load I have been working up of vihtavuori -550 and nosler 140 grain solid base bt in my 7x64.
The viht manual gives a figure of 2965 fps and I am getting a reading of 2710 that's 250 fps down.
It was a calm day not sunny but not dull,
I don't expect maximum velocity but I am hoping for about 2850 fps.
Very accurate out of my browning x bolt.
