.22 Winchester Super X 40Gn trajectory

Does any one know where I can get a trajectory sheet/ data? Shame Winchester don't produce one- like you can get in basic form for many of the centrefire rounds. Would be useful to know the exact performance/ drop over 100yds (without testing it myself!). Wondering if somebody might have the data from one of the various scope reticule data sheets? Thanks.

Exact is a pie in the sky, all rifles will perform differently.

Rimfire Rifle Ballistics: this should get you started.

actually your wrong ! don't you read the interweb ? all you need is to throw money at it with loads of Gucci kit and you will become able to print half inch groups at 300m all day long and shoot game animals at twice that distance in the head whilst moving (you and them) it's simple really............

Winchester says that the BC = 0.109 when fired at an MV of 1085 FPS.

You can put that into some program like JBM Ballistics and get a close approximation for your rifle, with its sight height above the bore. But you are going to have to shoot any load in your rifle in 10 yard increments beyond 50 yards in order to know the actual drop and holdover or turret clicks to aim at longer ranges.

And there are programs which will let you enter the actual drops at various ranges and compute the actual BC for you, if you also measure the MV. To my way of thinking, it is just easier to shoot the various ammunition and make some notes of how many clicks, or what the BDC mark actually corresponds to in yards.

Here are some old BCs of 40-gr match ammunition...As you can see, it lists the Winchester at 0.150, and some Eley at .150 and others at 0.105 for the same weight and MV. That is why you can't use the first "data" you find.

Thanks all. Would you believe it Winchester do have a 'ballistic calculator' on their website which I had somehow missed first time round. It quite usefully shows the generic performance of the round (with assumptions, some of which are adjustable) and the drop at different ranges which accord to selectable zero distances. Its actually quite useful as one basic tool for working out the most appropriate distance for zero for my personal requirements, and for comparing different rounds (shame- Winchester only of course). Rest assured I'm not going to be 'dialling in' with my 6x42 or shooting beyond 100yds. Nor will I 'unleash the knowledge' before I have tested my conclusions on paper (i.e. seen the specifics which follow from my own particular set up).
Just for the benefit of the thread, with a 50 yard example zero, the drops according to the calculator (in inches) are: 60yd 0.7; 70yd 1.8; 80yd 3.2; 90yd 5.1; 100yd 7.4
I suspect if taken as generic advice- and I can't believe anyone on this forum would be foolish enough to use this kind of untested info on live quarry in isolation, I sincerely hope not- this is accurate enough to be quite useful. The 100yd figure is about 0.2 inches off my own range test, for example.
On reflection my initial post was rather poorly worded in an effort to avoid 'test it yourself' responses. I will be doing that if the wind don't blow and the lambing doesn't take over Easter......

An inexpensive Mil Dot scope with parallax adjustment is very useful for quick ranging and holdover and hold off. At 7x, the dots are right at 5 MOA, at 9x, right at 4 MOA spacing.

Hawke has a free ballistic calculator which you can download, for their reticles and for Mil Dot and whatever BDC spacing you want to match up.

This used to be one of the most consistently accurate US domestic loads there was back in the early eighties. I did a long drawn out test over 17 months that showed the Winchester Super X could be relied on to group with a 98% consistency. (meaning, regardless of average group for a given rifle, there would be <2% flier rate that would fall outside the average.) (One of the Reps from Winchester asked to review it at her hotel room and I never saw the work again.)That aside, Winchester Super X 40 grain was my 'go to' round since I was 7 years old and through my 40's.~Muir

Funny this should come up. Winchester 40 gr Super X Subsonic and HP has been impossible to find for years. Suddenly, I have seen it in the stores, at greatly enhanced prices of $11.00 / 100, and bought several boxes without even trying one first to see if the quality was still there. Back in November, I found five rounds of it in a trunk, over 50 years old. And I found a 100-round box 20 years old. I figured it might be good to warm up the rifle. The 20-year old stuff shot tiny groups. So I put the five really old ones in my most accurate .22 LR, and they shot tiny groups. I had found 20 rounds of old Eley black box, and these old squirrel hunting rounds shot better than the Eley!
