    Anyone using 123g sako 308

I haven't been stalking long so far only used 150g rws. Shot two muntjac and a fallow, just wonder what the lighter bullets are like?

Hello pip308, I use this round in my Sako 85 and it shoots just fine.

They are the most accurate factory round I've tried in my rifle but also causes the most damage. Use the search function, plenty written on this topic. Best, J

Not .308 but I use the 123gn Sako in my 30-06 and the guns loves them and coming out of a 30-06 anything I've hit didn't get much chance to complain.

They do a lot of damage and shoot quite flat out to 250 yards, May or may not suit your shooting style. They are very good for dropping deer in the edges of clearfell...

Thanks for the replies. I think I may try them and see how they go. Are they better for neck shots shots over heart and lung ?

Use them all the time in my Tikka T3 after being recommended to me and never used anything since. In saying that I'm about to start home loading......

Personally I always go for a heart/lung shot. It is what I feel comfortable with as I know even if I'm an inch out the beast will drop and if it runs a little there will be a decent blood trail. If you're out by an inch aiming for the neck you may injure the deer and have no way of finding it. Neck shots have there place, for me, at very close range but I seldom aim for this area. Regardless you will need a bullet that can do the job whatever situation you find yourself in and wherever you place the shot. The 123gr are very capable and the 15 Roe and Munties I've taken so far this year have not gone more than a pace from where they were struck.

Thanks for the advice, so far I have only taken heart lung shots for the same reasons but another thread said 123g was better for head, neck shots as meat damage was too great. Just wanted some advice on chest shots with a lighter bullet.

When I had a .308, Sako 123 were the most accurate round I ever found and had no problem with Fallow and Muntjac.
