Young Malform Roe buck caught on the trailcam

Just been out getting the last things ready for the start of our roe buck season on Monday, and thought I might as well check the trailcams. Apart from finally getting lots of photos of the elusive fallow deer that leave footprints across our ground whenever we're not there, I also couldn't help but notice this young (yearling?) roe buck's antlers.

What do you reckon, damaged while in velvet, or something else?

It looks to me like the left antler/spike is growing about two inches behind the pedicle, or am I mistaken?
