I have just had a email from my wildfowling club asking for support to appoint an independent financial inspector to look into the recent financial affairs at BASC. Anyone know about this? I know that there have been some resignations at the top.
The email also implies fraud stating that 5000000 £ is at risk

I've taken this from another site

If you're a BASC member they need your help right now, please read the following and send an email...! Please no speculation on this post.

You may be aware that there is considerable and growing disquiet about events which have taken place at BASC over the last few days. These events led to the resignation of Alan Jarrett as Chairman of our Association and the resignation of two other members of BASC Council. Our assets – including over £5,000,000 in cash at bank – are now at risk and the protection of our sport may be irreversibly weakened.
We feel it is now vital and urgent that an independent inspector is brought in to examine what has been going on and to protect our Association from wrongdoing.
BASC is a Registered Society, and is therefore regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Under the Cooperative and Community Benefits Society Act 2014. The FCA has the power to appoint an inspector to investigate if called upon to do so.
For this to happen we need the support of 100 BASC members. We need your support. Shooting needs your support. With your help we can call on the FCA to launch an investigation into what has been going on at BASC; to find out whether our assets are safe; and whether recent governance has been in keeping with best practice.

Should any of you require any further information please contact me on 07973209571.

Please forward this email to your fellow Wildfowlers in order that we can gain the 100 signatures.
Can you please confirm your support by sending an email to Lee Freeston at lee@lfelectricalservices.com with the following wording:
In accordance with Section 106 of the Cooperative and Community Benefits Society Act 2014, I hereby request that the Financial Conduct Authority appoint inspectors to examine and report on the affairs of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation.
Name ......
Email address .......
BASC membership number ........

Whatever has happened, surely until it becomes clearer, the email above could if taken from a cynical stand point be a brilliant way of the anti's disrupting and discrediting our largest shooting/lobbying organisation and weakening our strength by destroying us from the inside with infighting?
Im no basc supporter, but as a community we should keep the infighting and speculation to a minimum as all it does is fuel the fires of those who want to destroy our sport......

I agree, but I thought that Jonathan Swift had already done that damage?

I have and always will be a fan of what BASC do. No body is perfect and they will never please everyone. But what they do for young shots is great.
They have also helped many a shooter keep there certificates and gain certificates. What ever has happened I hope gets sorted soon with minimal fuss.
its just a shame many people feel this is a great time to stick the knives in when really we should be pulling together.

Taken from BASC website

CERTAIN internal employment issues are currently being investigated at BASC and, to protect people’s employment rights and ensure confidentiality, we are unable to say more at this time.
We can confirm that, contrary to gossip and speculation, nobody has been escorted from Marford Mill by the police and nobody has been arrested on grounds of fraud or other criminal offences.
BASC will make a further statement once proper process has been followed and completed. Until that time, our work as the UK’s largest shooting organisation will continue with the focus and determination our members expect.

It comes across as sh*t stirring and gathering a good ol' lynch mob!

I saw that post up on FB and that was my thought too!

We dont know whats happened exactly but we do know there HASNT been any fraud as BASC have publicly stated, so therefore no need to write a letter to the FCA asking them to get involved. All thats going to do is muddy the waters further, more than likely delay any public statement as to whats happened as BASC will be dealing with any FCA enquiry and potentially (further?) damage the largest shooters organisation in the country.

I would really like to know the source of the email encouraging us to contact the FCA. Is it a spamming device by anti blood sports activists ?

From what I have heard of him, Lee Freeston is a A1 wildfowler..

Whatever axe anybody has to grind, please stop. All this is like manna from heaven to the antis. Fast answers are very rarely accurate or right, let's give people a bit of time.

David.

As is the fact that the press are reporting that the police had to be called to BASC HQ because an argument between staff members threatened to get out of hand.
If the speculation is damaging what do you think of the above apparent "fact",when the statement made by BASC has only rubbished what didnt happen?
And this "axe to grind" seems to be the usual deflection nonsense when im seeing a lot of subscription members of BASC looking for a few facts.Names dont need to be mentioned, but a general gist of what went down would appease many.

+1

The BASC statement didn't provide enough information to pour oil on troubled waters. As a BASC member, I would have liked to have seen a more detailed statement confirming the facts to put to bed any speculation.

The truth will all come out in the wash anyway and by staying silent for so long, they are damaging themselves and the BASC membership, even the shooting community at large. On balance, we do need to work together and whatever went on, I'm sure is nothing thathing that can't be repaired so that we can all pull together and move on. Allowing the continued spread of speculation and gossip is doing no-one any favours except the antis. Come on BASC, lets have some clarity. It needn't have to put any person at risk (no names or fine detail needed, and no compromising any HR investigations, simply a "what did happen, what is happening now, and what will be done to repair the situation"...that's all we want).

I trust that we will hear more from BASC without too much delay, otherwise confidence will be hammered, and I'm a supporter!

As with any investigation internal or external process needs to be followed. Hence why they can't say anything.

Agreed, but that doesn't (or shouldn't) prevent a more detailed statement which doesn't have to prejudice the outcome or due process. In place of "repeating the allegation" in denials, perhaps a more positive statement with a timescale for the detailed explanation (be that a month or two) and something like "business as usual folks, nothing to see here" was all that was needed. That's not what we got, so hey-ho, we'll just have to wait and see, all in good time.

well as a member I want to know the 'gossip' but I also want BASC to follow guidance in handling an internal matter to professional standards as an employer. So from my point of view I am happy they release minimal information in line with protecting the rights of employees.

All you will get in the end will be the statement along the lines of: 'after conducting an internal investigation BASC has dismissed a previously suspended employee'
