Thread: Separate firearms insurance

    Separate firearms insurance

My house hold insurance is up for renewal and I'm pondering should I take out a separate policy for my firearms or lump it in with my house contents insurance. I want them insured not only in the home but when out with them as well. The reason I ask is the company I'm with are reluctant to cover them when outside the home.
    Thanks

Worth speaking to the NFU about it - I have insured with them for a good few years now & they understand what you need by way of all risk cover in addition

I spoke with our insurers... John Lewis, about insuring my firearms and they suggested adding a 30k cover 'Away from home' package to our current household insurance. The cost....... 17 per year. was expecting 10 times that.

I included my guns in with the usual household insurance - added about 15 to the policy.

Seems like the easiest way to go and probably cheaper than a specialist policy. I had a specialist guitar policy a few years back and it was about 50 a year, but doing it in with the normal household contents was only about 20.

Their prices seem to be a joke for household insurance. Maybe it's different for rural locations?

NFU, mine are covered with my contents insurance while in the cabinet and I have a separate policy that covers them (and scopes/accessories) for accidental damage while in use. They may not be the cheapest insurance, although in my situation they weren't far off, but they are very good insurers. Cheap insurance is great until you have to make a claim
