Nosler Ballistic Tip not opening up

    You did read that correctly.

I shot a fox last night with a 55grain BT from my 243.

Ordinarily expansion is... assured but last night's fox had a calibre sized hole going in and out.

The shot was from a high angle above on a heavily quartering towards fox. The shot entered high and in front of the shoulder and exited low and behind the shoulder.

One seems to hear a lot about BTs being a little too frangible but has anyone experienced them not opening up at all?

Range? FPS? I stopped using them on big game because they were too explosive. Could have been a freak incident. I have found the Sierra .55 gr. Blitzking to be almost nuclear.

70 yards and around 3700 fps at the muzzle.

I was using 58 grain hornady v-maxes but found a more accurate load using these 55 gr ballistic tips.

Not by your standards Brian, the primer didn't fall out when I extracted the case... :p

Much the same, all work no play.

Not long now, hope you connect buddy. knowing you I'm sure it won't take long...

to give this some perspective this something like the tenth fox I have shot with this bullets compared to around fifty foxes with the 58 grain Hornady vmax.

I Think it must just be one of those freak occurrences if no one has experienced it.

Were you able to check for internal damage? It could be possible that the bullet expanded wuickly upon entry and jellied the internals, then just the thicker part of the solid base exited....thoughts?
