    Will a 22 250 work well long range with a 16" barrell

Thinking of a 22 250 for long range stuff 250 -300m fox / corvid and limited on second hand rifels by being L/H

Found one with a 16" barrell which is lovly and compact but was told I realy needed 24" to get the most from the round

What will I lose dropping to a 16"

Is it a consideration or shall I stick to 24" to get the most out of the round?

Stick to a longer tube if you want to get the most out of the round.~Muir

I have an 18" Walther barrel on my Sako (took me 30yrs to wear the original out!!). Still get 3700fps with a 55gn Nosler. Accuracy unaffected by length.

You will have one loud rifle with a massive Muzzel flash. But should be fine way past 300

At those ranges a 223 would suffice. 22-250 is pretty hard on the fur.

Mine has a 22 inch barrel and have happily hit 6inch steel plates out to 550 yards.

Your .243 will do the job every bit as well as a .22cf. Don't let that stop you from getting a 22-250 if you really want one though!

I would not suggest not to get his rifle of choice, just pointing out what you get from a .22-250 short barrel .
Many moons ago I had a Winchester model 70 featherweight 20" barrel with BOSS boy that was loud with a big blast and a flash that took your vision at night.
Had it over 10 years though.
