European Firearms permit Vs. German permit

Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone might be able to help.

Police Scotland are refusing to issue a visitor permit to my client who wants to bring a rifle in using his German hunting licence (Jagdschein) and German rifle licence (waffenbesitzkarte).

Police Scotland are insisting it must be a European firearms pass he has. Our client insists he only has the German passes.

Are police Scotland right that he cant use his german one or are they just being difficult?

    Thanks!

    Hi Alex,
You cannot bring a rifle in the UK without having the European Firearm Permit. Even if you have German, French, Belgian,..... license, you need to have this EFP.

It's all laid out in Chapter 27 of the Home Office Guidance.

27.4. Visitors from other European Union (EU) states must be in possession of a European
Firearms Pass (EFP) in order to be issued with a visitors’ firearm or shotgun permit (see
Chapter 29 for more information about these passes).

Same rules as for the rest of Europe. the German firearms licence is valid solely for Germany. To shoot in any other country or transit with the firearm you need a European Firearms licence.
