    South Africa 2016

So the working year has come to an end and i thought i would take the time to write up my September trip to Limpopo, South Africa.

This year i was very fortunate to have the company of my good friend Dan who was on his first trip out to SA. I would love to say that the travel over was uneventful but we just squeaked through boarding on time due to a few delays getting the guns checked in. Luckily we were ushered through the massive queue at security by the helpful staff at heathrow.

Needless to say the glass of wine on the plane was well received and i will be leaving hours to spare next time.

I always like the flight out because you leave at about 7pm from london and after a sleep on the plane wake up in Johannesburg at 6:30 in the morning.

The outfitter Patrick from Bushwack was at the airport to meet us and sort out the rifle permits for us and without any fuss we were off driving north to the concession.

the campsite, there was leopard spoor in the camp and on the second night something big brushed alongside of the tent. I have never had my heart race as hard as that.

    zeroing at the range.

I brought my 308 and 375 barrel with me, but like an idiot forgot to bring the magazine insert for the 375 so it didn't get used this year!

a herd of cape buffalo about as close as you would want them without a large calibre rifle! Later on in the day we came across a lone kudu bull on one of the small hills.

and then got almost within shooting distance, but i had already taken my bull so he was left for another day. It was still a special moment. It did give me an idea for a SD competition!

Over the week had a great time and Dan did well with an Impala, Warthog and a Blue Wildebeest. The tracking of the Wildebeest was the highlight of the holiday for me but i will leave that story for Dan to tell.

Planning my next trip now with a gemsbok in mind!

Baboon can be tricky. You'd be lucky to get one in three days.

Was that 4 animals in three whole hunting days, 2 x 1?

the best opportunity i had on a baboon was last year but typically we were out looking for buffalo so had to leave it.

yes 2x1 for 3 full days.

    2x Impala
    1x Kudu Bull
    1x Blue Wildebeest

thinking back my friend was down for a warthog but didnt get one in the end.

Nice write up thanks. What does an outfit like that charge for their transport, accomodation and fees (Excluding flights)?
