Fox vs muntjac- not!

To me this reinforces the fact that humans are the ONLY predator for all deer species in the UK - and we are duty bound to keep their numbers in control.

A couple of years ago I heard the screaming of a Muntjac fawn that was clearly in distress/pain. With that, a patch of bramble pretty much erupted as a fox emerged with a big old muntjac buck hot on his tails and slashing at his back legs with his tusks! I couldn't quite see the extent of the injuries, but there was no dispute as to who was the boss there! The fox eventually pulled away, but I doubt muntjac fawn would have been on his menu again! Foxes don't suffer injuries well and tend to get gangrene/infection. Not sure a doe would defend quite as well but they are tough little deer and I suspect the doe would have more of a protective trait despite less weapons.
