Any info about optics-world.nl?

Hi guys, I also ordered a scope from OWNL. I registered only to answer to this thread, but please hear me out. I didn't really make any research prior to placing the order as their FB page has positive reviews. It was only after placing the order that I started searching for reviews online. This made me quite nervous as I was now fearing for my money. However, Thomas answered to all of my emails very quickly and sent a tracking number for the parcel. Originally I contacted him via FB on a Sunday and he answered very quickly. I placed the order that same day and he said he could send the scope out the next day. I asked for a tracking number on Monday evening to which he answered that because PostNL picks up so many packages they will provide tracking numbers 1-2 days after pickup. Asked again on Tue - no tracking number. On Wed he said that they had contacted him from PostNL and said that he would get the tracking numbers that same afternoon. Sure enough he sent me a tracking number on Wednesday afternoon. The PostNL site said that it had been registered to their system on Wednesday, but PostNL is not exactly known for fast and efficient service so I can't say anything about that (just check their reviews on trustpilot).

Today the package is on it's way to me. I have to say that so far my shopping experience has been good. After reading some negative things about OWNL it has caused some extra stress, but Thomas has always answered me fairly quickly, also on a Sunday! I'm sorry for the troubles you have gone through, but I have to say that my experience has been positive this far. Now I'm just waiting for the package to inspect the new Kahles scope I have purchased.

Maybe it is a case of him selling a lot of stuff he doesn't necessarily have in stock right away, but to me he told that he has it on stock and can ship it the next day. Hope your cases have been solved. I just felt that there should also be someone sending a positive review as I have not had any troubles and he has been nice to communicate with.

Hi, I joined SD recently, actually not to comment on this topic but mostly to read the forums!

I was about to buy a scope from him, pretty soon found out that the website seems more professional than the "actual store". He carries almost no stock and then tries to sell you what he's got, so I happily decided against buying anything from there.

However, I do believe there is no real "ill will" involved and he probably means well......he just took on more than he can handle.
Having said that, I will not (or rather try not) to buy from a store which provides unreliable information and pretends to be something else (better and/or bigger) than it actually is.
It just boils down to the fact if you want to do reliable and sincere business or not. I don't know if many of you follow German forums but there are quite a few mentioning exactly the same problems: not in stock, long deliveries, misinformation, delays and not answering until legal procedures are mentioned.....

Therefore he lost me as a potential customer long time ago as I rather take my hard earned money elsewhere.

It seems that I was just in time! I would have already paid the invoice (payment is actually in my bank waiting) in my email, but there were shipping costs which we agreed not to. First I ordered from online store but Paypal was not working and I have been asking to pay via PayPal, but it has been ignored every time. I guess that I'll want to have a layer of extra protection with this.

Thanks all :)

I explained the situation and linked this thread and asked payment using PayPal. Reply was fast and very short saying that they will cancel the invoice. I don't know if I'm going to have labradar from OWNL.

Labradar and equipments can be bought from elsewhere about the same price (Dr. Gmünder or some other German shop) which will accept PayPal or even 80€ more from Finland. I would have liked to buy from OWNL because we had long chats with Thomas but now I'm not sure if I want to support that kind of business :( Should I just give up and get it elsewhere?

Of course. Go elsewhere. You would be crazy to shop there.

Good luck!

Kind regards,

Carl

I bought labradar from other place and paid by PayPal so I’m safe and happy now!

It’s just sad that I somehow liked Thomas and I really wish that he can get his things straight with PayPal! It was just too big risk for me to do wire transfer. It’s pity because he has few nice open box scopes in good price.

Cheater (Thomas van Veghel), do not make any purchases. I ordered the Pulsar Trail in January 2019 and paid over 3,200 euros. Until today (Jun 2019) I have not received Pulasar and did not give me money. Cheater 100%, do not order anything because you lose money.

So, this chap "probably" means no ill will? I don't really see how Ill will comes into allegedly scamming people because I'm sure he's not got anything personal against any prospective customer. So you've actually visited his store and he carries at a guess next to nothing that he's advertising on his website and to save face he tries selling you what he does have? No, it's not a case of over stretching himself. Lets be honest here...he's deliberately misleading people and probably doesn't have the cash-flow (or inclination) to carry stock. A good businessman manages customer expectations and strives to deliver 5-star customer service, nothing less. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that he's building a false picture of his company, his stock and his services. When people offer payment where protection is given, he either ignores or refuses that method. As Carl W rightly says, going elsewhere is the bright thing to do in this case. You would have to be stark raving bonkers to part with a penny and enter into a contract with this man. His reputation seems to be shot yet there are people, knowing this is the case, still placing orders with Optics World-Netherlands? More fool them.

@ ChesterP
Quote me for one line, but the rest of what I wrote is essentially the same what most people are saying.

I will not buy from a store which provides unreliable information and pretends to be something else

And no, I did not visit his store, as it is a webstore, he just tried to sell me something different from what I initially asked.

There is probably not much you can do but
may offer some help

What you said wasn't at all clear tecuani. I read that as you'd visited his store and saw he didn't keep much stock, but the outcome is the same be it via a phone call, on line or whatever...he's scammed people out of a lot of money where they've never received their scopes. I didn't quote you "one line", I quoted your whole post as you can clearly see, and simply picked out a line where you seemed to be defending his actions by saying that he "probably" meant no ill will, which completely missed the point! Sorry, but people can only comment and offer debate on what was actually written rather than what may have been intended and I do understand that English may not be your first language, so you've done pretty well in the circumstances.

Just mind, if you want to have a good price maybe 300 euros off on a 3000, and have to wait more than a year after endless emails conversations ; you will understand that you probably won't have your material and your money back, what kind of deal is it ?
After a year, the product you intend to buy will be probably cheaper everywhere. But you won't have your. Many people experiences the same. Usually with thermal scopes or expensive stuff.
Don't trust all promises this company does.
It's like a ponzy game.
If you want Pulsar, try to find in Germany.
If you want to find scopes, try Luxembourg or UK. If you want Schmidt and Bender, write them, and ask them with which company you could buy there products for the best service.
Optics world, should never com in your life. So that you will stay happy.

You also can observe, that they have multiple internet site name. Serious company you think ?

It’s 2020, and Thomas has not changed a bit. I’m still waiting for the money back.

should’ve known better, why they would ask for bank transfer as a payment method. Will not ever recommend this to anybody. The risk of potentially losing all your money just for a little lower price isn’t worth it.

Anyone who has good experiences with him... you’re very lucky (if you aren’t paid to write a good review).

If a deal seems too good to be true then it probably is.

Try all of the usuals that advertise on here. They try their hardest and the ones I have dealt with have impeccable customer service.

Keep it local.

Has his 'lawyer' actually contacted anyone in here?

I contacted Spera Advocaten but right now it's the weekend, so I won't get any replies until Monday.

Hi all, sorry to bump an aging thread but I'm replying to let you know that I ALMOST bought from O-W.NL and to thank you for your posts in this thread.

I'd been looking for a Noblex NV P for Glock M.O.S. System 2.0 since last year, but US distributers had listed it as discontinued. After some Googling I found optics-world.nl... Which conveniently had the red dot listed for a little under $500.00USD. I added the item to my cart and tried to checkout using PayPal, which luckily did not work. I emailed Thomas to ask if the red dot was in stock and to let him know PayPal isn't working. And his reply, basically falls in line with posts this thread. It seemed odd that he'd insisted on payment via bank-wire... Another statement of his that struck me was: "Sorry, Paypal works only with stock items." But his website lists the NV P and I was able to add it to my cart, nothing indicating it wasn't available. Most other sites listed it as out of stock or discontinued. By this point I'm fairly spooked, so I do a quick search on the phrase "optics-world.nl scam" and landed on this thread.

As others have posted, caveat emptor.

Well(sigh) the search for a Noblex NV P continues, but I'm not very optimistic at this point.

THANK YOU ALL.

Happy ending, after 2 years and a scathing review which I have since taken down, Thomas sent me a scope that I choose which I am happy with. It isn't what I originally wanted but that was 2 years ago.

That's great news Doc. If Thomas is on the mend, then that's a win for the sporting communities. The more legitimate vendors, the better imo.
