    Mounted head or Skull Mount?

    Hi All,

I have been reading the thread about medal heads, and I was wondering which of you stalkers like full mounted Taxidermy heads and which of you prefer just displaying skull mounts on shields?

Obviously I realise that fully mounted heads are a lot more expensive and take up more room, however I feel that it is worth it for your biggest and best heads , or indeed your first of a species head ( as you could always shoot a bigger one, but you will never shoot your first Sika or Munty or Roe again)

I have often spoken to stalkers who have always gone for skull mounts, because they didnt realise just how good modern good taxidermy can be when done by a skilled taxidermist. I personally believe that a skull mount doesnt convey the true beauty of deer only a clinical comparison of the antlers themselves.

So, which would it be for you and why? Mounted head or Skull mount (frontal)?

Due to both space and cost i go for skull mount and am a particular fan of the full skull mount cut above the jaw but my mum is not a fan so that wouldn't be hanging in the house so have a couple of long nose cuts coming my way when the one shot out of velvet has been coloured up to match the one that was clean and one of them is my first red stag. As you say modern taxidermy is amazing have a look at some of this guys stuff >CLICK ME< i have seen some in the real life and it is so life like and is very much laking the glassy eyed look of some mounts.

Leave em in the freezer till you can then.
I know it can be a pain, last year I had to open up the east wing to fit a few more in

If I did that it would cost me at least 10 grand a year at 550 a knock

cheapest quotes at present for a full roe job stands minimum at 250

I do all skull mounts it cost me nothing as i do them myself.
If mounted on a decent Bavarian shield with oak leaf clusters they take a bit of beating in my view
