Lab pups

Little mischiefs! Soon to be medium mischiefs, then quite large mischiefs by the looks of things.

With your labradors, assuming firm but fair training and some experience of the breed, at what age would you expect them to settle down and become reliable?

We love labs, have had some great times with several really solid dogs over the years, but have also known some complete nutters that drove their owners (and everyone else) mad with frustration...

I suppose it will depend to a great extent on the breeding lines. These lines are pretty decent so never had an issue with "settling down". You have to let pups be pups of course but they can differentiate between play time and training time usually, albeit to them the training is also fun.

keeping more than one pup can change things to an extent if they are kennelled together as they constantly mess around, but they are still fine when being trained.

We kept a bitch back from the last litter, did only basic stuff with her until around 11 months and then stepped it up a bit and she is doing very steady and reliable retrieval work within a month.
