    Deer disease transmitted to cows.

    HI,

    can anyone shed some light on the following for me please.

    i was shooting yesterday and was talking away to the farmer when he told me of a cow he had slaughtered earlier this year.
    the cow was brought to the abattoir with an infection which he was aware of but not serious so he thought.
    on slaughter the cow was condemned by the site vet as having a nasal disease which came from wild deer.
    this disease is transmittable from deer to cows but not cow to cow ???
    does anyone know what this is and is that a correct diagnosis.
    it cost the farmer 80 for the beast to be killed and the meat was destroyed

    any constructive help appreciated,

    MCF its called Malignant Catarrhal Fever its a ruminant disease,most sheep carry the mcf viruse.There is no treatment or vaccine for this disease.

    Agree this sounds like MCF. Sheep carry the virus but cattle and other ruminants get the disease. Always fatal, no vaccine, no risk to man. link to some more information:

    Thanks I was trying to get some links up Defra ect but my computer wouldnt do it, do you copy it or paste not good with them you see .
