Thread: Best tasting venison

    Best tasting venison

Whats your favourite species for venison (UK species only). For me it's Sika. And you???

  2. #2
To be honest I cant taste much difference but the Missus loves Fallow

I voted for muntjac, but I have only had sika once (from a Cornbury park sika), red two or three times, and have never eaten CWD. I prefer fallow to roe, and munty to fallow.

I need to try CWD, and am negotiating with a friend in Norfolk for the chance to shoot (and keep) one.

Munties!............. sweet, not shot one myself, but a friend always fetches a bit round, still, any fillet or backstraps will make me suck my teeth!

Voted Munty, you an me both Finn, only tried Red, Roe, and Munty, (none shot by me) and Munty is tasty. Prefer Roe to Red though.

Before I took to shooting bigger stuff than fox, (& no I never tasted one!), I was always told to ask for a chunk off the arse end of a fallow less than two years old.

I voted for munty. Of the three I have tasted I would rank them 1- Munty 2- Roe 3- Red.

Sika then Fallow, Roe, Red. Sadly, haven't tried either of the wee ones yet, but the Munties are getting closer.

I keep toying with the idea of setting up a small herd of Sika, to farm. Anyone here already tried that?
