    Rutting activity

Pictures of a poorly Sika Stag shot in Dorset on 30 Sept by a friend of mine. He was all skin and bone and was laid out in a grass field gentle shaking his head to move the flies away.

I thought that he had been shot at first but on closer inspection there were 6 other puncture wounds around the neck wound. There was the one puncture wound between his antlers and another by the left pedicle that had torn the skin down. He also had 2 pucture wounds in his groin area and when the gralloch was attempted my mate nearly barfed as a load of puss seeped out from around his love plums. We did a thorough check for sign of disease but found none so thought that he had just picked a fight with the wrong stag.
