maybe that stag was the biggest in his area but at 300lb he'd have been a tidler in some parts

Some of the quotes crack me up whilst others incense me!

Not that I could do it myself but at the moment stirring a pan of venison chilli

Each to their own but some people are so ignorant

I think the '300lb' figure on-the-hoof, actually viewed or from a photo, was a guesstimate plucked out of the air by someone who has no real idea of what actual carcase weights are being taken in this area, and just keeps on being repeated by other similarly ill-informed idiots in the press.

The reds around the fringes of Exmoor are some of the biggest bodied in this country, and I've been present when clients have taken 18 and 20 pointers from that location that were at least as big bodied as the one pictured if not bigger. The whole story and the continuing fuss about this 'Emperor' are a load of b*ll*x. My own 14 point 'Imperial' from earlier last month appears to have a more uniform head than the one in the story and the body size was at least comparable - and that was way over 300lb!
